Remember that when you buy your ticket from Viva we randomly assign you a seat at no cost. If you want to change your location on the plane, you must purchase this additional service to change your location. 
You should also take into account:

  • If you bought a Full Fare ticket, you can choose the seat you want from row 2 onwards (at no extra cost), if it is available at the time of purchase.
  • With our Medium Fare you can choose the seat you like from row 6 (does not include emergency exits)
  • If you are traveling with a child under 12 years of age, you can indicate this in the purchase process before making the payment and thus, our system automatically assigns you the seats together at no cost.

What you should bear in mind when choosing a different seat than the one assigned

These are some of the most frequent questions that Viva travelers have asked us, and that you can also ask yourself when you go to choose a different seat than the one assigned to you on the ticket.  

What do I do if I need special assistance?

If you require special assistance, there is no additional cost! There is also no cost to issue your boarding pass at the airport.
Seat assignment service for passengers needing special assistance has no additional cost for the following passengers:

  • Persons with visual impairment
  • Persons with reduced mobility
  • Persons with hearing impairment
  • Persons with language impairment

Keep in mind that:

  • If you specified any of the above options in your reservation, you can choose any available seat on the plane with the exception of the emergency exit rows.
  • Bear in mind that the system will not allow you to complete a web check-in, therefore, you must show up in advance at the check-in counter to claim your boarding pass at no cost.

These are other cases in which the seat assignment service does not have an additional cost for your special assistance request:

  • Wheelchair service to and from the plane
  • Battery-free wheelchair transported by you
  • Wheelchair provided by Viva
  • Wheelchair with a dry battery
  • Oxygen tank
  • Assistance animal
  • Cognitive impairment
  • Quadriplegic person
  • Paraplegic person of the upper extremities

Please note regarding the above cases:

  • If you specified any of the above options in your reservation, you cannot select any seat through the web check-in.
  • You must show up in advance at the check-in counter to claim your boarding pass at no cost

What happens if you travel with a baby?

If you are traveling with children from 10 days up to 24 months old, you can choose your seat! Remember that they must travel in the arms of one of their parents and will not be able to occupy a seat on the plane. If in your reservation you indicated that you are traveling with a baby, you will be able to choose your seat from the options available for this category. Keep in mind that prices may vary according to the location you choose on the plane.


what happens if you travel with a child under 12 years old

At Viva we are always mindful of the best interests and comprehensive protection of children. For this reason, if you are traveling with a child under 12 years of age, you must purchase the seat assignment service, to avoid any situation that could compromise their security.
Keep in mind that the price of your seat assignment may vary according to the location you choose on the plane.


What is the seat assignment if you travel with your pet?

You get a window seat if you travel with your pet! :) If you included the service to travel with your pet in your reservation, you can choose seats located next to the windows. Remember that prices vary according to the location on the plane. Learn about our policies on the transport of pets here


How to choose your seat

Choose your seat through the additional service on our website, from the call center, in the purchase process, at the time of web check-in, or at the airport on the day of your flight or on board the plane. You have from 48 hours up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure of your domestic flight, and up to 3 hours before your international flight to select this service


How to change the seat?

It’s so easy! Change your seat through our website, from the call center, at the airport or aboard the plane.

  • If you do it through the website, you must select the option "Your Reservation", enter the reservation code with your last name, and in the "Add additional services" section select the option to change your seat. If you choose a seat of higher value, you must pay the difference and if it is one of a lower value, you are not entitled to a refund.
  • If you want to make the change after checking in via the web, go to the counter at the airport. This change has an additional cost for the change of seat and for the printing of your new boarding pass.

What happens if there is a change of flight?

If you changed your flight and had already purchased the seat assignment service, you must select it again. Remember that if you choose a higher value seat, you must pay the difference. And if it is one of lesser value, you do not receive a refund.


What happens in case of flight rescheduling?

If your flight is rescheduled, you can have the same seat that you chose before if it is available by automatic allocation of the system.
if the seat you have already purchased is not available, you will be assigned one that has the same characteristics that you selected. If you do not agree with the seat we assigned you, because it does not meet the characteristics of the seat you purchased, you must contact us through the call center or go to the counter at the airport on the day of your flight to have a seat assigned to you that accommodates your needs. If you cannot find a seat that matches the characteristics you purchased, your money will be refunded.


What happens to your seat in case of a connecting flight?

The purchase of your seat only applies for one segment. If you have a connecting flight, you must buy the seat for the other trip. Remember that this service applies only per route and per person.


How to get a seat on the flight?

You don't have to buy the seat assignment service to have a seat on the plane. With Viva you choose how and where you want to fly. If you have no problem traveling in any row, the system randomly assigns you a seat as soon as you check-in, either through our website, from the call center, or at the airport.


What to do if you want a seat next to the emergency exit?

If you want to fly in a seat next to the emergency exit, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Being over 15 years old
  • Speak Spanish or English
  • Not be pregnant
  • Have the ability to open the emergency exit
  • Have no hearing or visual limitations
  • No extension belt required
